“Every human should act and be honoured according to their Merit (Value) ”. On an Individual Level, the term Meritocracy indicates the Principle according to which the undertaking of ranks and positions (public or other) and the acknowledgement and rewarding of one’s efforts are based on their personal excellence without being obstructed by their financial or social status. It acknowledges and recognises the individual. In addition, the person is led to Self-Knowledge and the awareness of existing weaknesses which he is trying to reject. It also helps the person summon all of his potentials and abilities in order to achieve his aim. Meritocracy leads to personal and emotional satisfaction, so long as the person is justified towards himself and socially acknowledged according to his achievements. Meritocracy acts as an incentive which activates one’s potentials, magnifies their efforts, enables them to undertake initiatives and increase their effectiveness. Moreover, it builds one’s “fighting spirit” to face any obstacle in order to accomplish their aim.
On the Societal Level, Meritocracy enhances “fair play” among the members of the society. “Social conscience” is cultivated and the people socialise harmoniously, feeling that they are naturally connected to the social environment. As a result, cooperation and solidarity are developed, and social co-existence is promoted. Social balance and Justice is greatly ensured. In addition, social and financial disputes between the Polites are reduced. The Polites are being evaluated under fair and unbiased criteria. Meritocracy develops and ensures the sense of Justice within the society and develops trust between the people, social institutions and the “Laws of the Politeia”.
